User support may yet resurrect zombie Xmarks

On September 27th, popular cross-browser bookmark and password sync tool Xmarks looked like it was all but done for. The official blog post made things sound pretty grim, but thanks to an outpouring of support from the community, there was renewed hope.

The next day, we reported on the announcement of Xmark's PBS-style pledge drive, asking users to show their support by saying "Yes, we'd pay a couple bucks a month for this!"

Today, there's even better news: the pledge drive has worked. Because of all the social noise created by Xmarks users, there are now "multiple offers on the table," and the Xmarks team is "pretty confident that Xmarks will continue on with no service interruption."

So, there you have it. Even when you're reporting on your own death, it's still possible for those reports to be greatly exaggerated.User support may yet resurrect zombie Xmarks originally appeared on Download Squad on Fri, 08 Oct 2010 08:00:00 EST.
