Duke Nukem Forever has a release date: 2011!

Filed under: Fun, GamesIn news that will surely shake you to the core and inspire you to question your existence as a software geek, it looks like Duke Nukem Forever -- the most fabled of fables -- will finally be released in 2011. You will be able to play it on your PS3 (woo, finally a game!), PC and Xbox 360.

After being dropped by its original developer 3D Realms in 2009 it was quickly picked up by Gearbox Software, a developer that obviously felt the fly-ridden carcass had not been flogged enough. This past weekend, however, Gearbox showed off some fairly impressive gameplay at PAX. It seems like DNF may actually be released this time. Really!

Of course, what with Duke Nukem Forever being the seminal vaporware title, many of us fully expect this recent development to sink into the glutinous mists of time.

If you haven't read the full history of 3D Realms and DNF, it's well worth reading. For bonus points, read the infamous 'chair story'. It's long, but hilarious (and scary).
